General Salary Comments:
The firm pays summer associates $2,400 per week. The firm began paying "lockstep" salaries to associates only in 2002. There are both "performance bonuses" and "production bonuses." One generally is "bonus eligible" if one achieves target billables of 2000 hours in addition to achieving a "grade" of 3, 4 or 5 from a compilation of all of the evaluations submitted by the partners and senior counsel for whom an associate worked more than 50 hours in the prior year. These are the "performance bonuses." GRADING KEY: a "3" equals "meeting expectations"; a "4" means "generally exceeding expections"; and a "5" means "exceptional performance". "Production bonuses" are awarded to those billing more than 2200 hours, with different steps at 2200, 2300, 2400 and 2500 billable hours. Bonuses earned in 2001 were between $3,000 and $37,500. Performance bonuses earned in 2002 were from $2,500 to $20,000. Production bonuses in 2002 ranged from $5,000 to $30,000.
