I would first try finding a job without using a recruiter. The Bay Area has a large surplus of patent attorneys in most disciplines. If you must, only go with a nationally recognized search firm such as Major, Hagan & Africa etc. that has been retained by a specific company or firm to find a particular candidate. Some recruiters will deceive and mislead candidates in order to collect their finders fee. That at least was my experience with one local Bay Area recruiter a few years ago.
