It is a plus to email a Thank You. It is a minus to not send one. We were just in this process of hiring and candidates were generally equivalent. The one that sent a brief Thank You email the next day received the offer. I believe it shows a desire for the job, attention to detail and offers a sample of what the candidate may send to a client.
