Re: Cruises out of Florida LoneRanger June 02, 2008 04:58 pm
I somewhat agree with message 1428 below. My worst experience was on a NCL ship, but that was years ago. I think the itinerary and the particular ship you choose may be even more important than the cruise line. For instance, Carnival has some newer (or renovated) ships with nice waterslides, etc., and they also has some older ships with little more than a pool. Other lines may have similar differences within their fleets. Also, a cabin with an ocean view or, even better (but more expensive), a balcony, may provide a different experience than an interior cabin.

If you are not really crazy about other people's children, I would avoid Disney cruises, unless it's for your own children.

Being from South Florida, I am fairly particular about the itinerary. I personally try to avoid the cruise ship ports in the Bahamas, except for a private island in the Bahamas that is owned by the cruise line ("flying" into Atlantis, etc., may be a different story).

Cruises leaving from PR offer alternatives to ports visited by Florida ships. From Florida, our three favorite stops on cruises of less than 7 days are Key West, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel.

I have not been on a Princess ship yet, but I hear they are nice, but expensive.

Just a suggestion, if you are traveling with others and may want to be in different places on the ship, bring a cheap pair of walkie talkies to keep in touch because your cell phones will not work.

Good luck.
