Re: ARENT FOX Loses 7 to Sonnenschein Judge_Judy July 18, 2002 09:16 am
From today's Washington Post:
Bringing in the Troops at Sonnenschein

After only five days as the head of the new public policy-lobby group at the Washington office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, Elliott I. Portnoy is in talks with "groups and people" to come on board, too.

Portnoy, who bolted from Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn, said the public policy practice at the 600-lawyer Chicago-based Sonnenschein, with 50 lawyers in Washington, is in "strong and aggressive growth mode."

Six other lawyers and lobbyists followed Portnoy from Arent Fox to Sonnenschein. At the same time, Gilianne Carter joins Sonnenschein from the investment banking, securities and brokerage firm of Bear Stearns. The former Arent Fox folks are Douglas McCormack, Mike McNamara, Alison Kutler, Michael Zolandz, Katie Clarke and Todd Weiss.

Clients who have also followed, Portnoy said, include McGraw-Hill Cos., S.C. Johnson & Son, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and the Epilepsy Foundation of America.

Portnoy, who was at Arent Fox for 10 years, including three as chairman of its lobby practice, worked for the Senate Democratic Policy Committee in the 1980s. But Sonnenschein's new group includes Republicans as well. Carter, for instance, has worked for the Republican Governors Association and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
